If you ask me, this one looks hella more freaky than the one they went with, but I am not sorry that they chose the more alien, faceless design. Honestly I prefer the faceless version. The “faceless” version that appears in the original aliens actually does have a skull-like face, it’s just behind the carapace. You can catch glimpses of it if you look hard enough. When I finally noticed it did, it freaked me the fuck out. Actually, looking at it now, I’m pretty sure the version above is what is underneath the carapace in the film.  Abe’s right. If you look close enough, you can see the face: It looks like someone was unsatisfied with the “skull” version of the suit and added more material onto it instead of re-doing the entire thing. That’s my guess anyway. There’s a clear ridge line on the top one, so maybe they built it that way from the start? Either way, it’s creepy as hell because even though its a skull, it has no eyes. Also, while the rest of it is vaguely human, the skull is the only part that is explicitly so.
